GGT

Gigi Tarantola, known as GGT, is a multidisciplinary artist born in Milan in 1972. His career began as an underground cartoonist in the 90s, then evolved into a path that embraces painting, video animation and installations, creating a personal style in which irony and visual synthesis become expressive tools. His painting, characterized by super flat shapes, sharp contours and primary colors, has an immediate impact and is accessible to a wide audience, thanks to the formal simplicity that hides a complex interpretation of the present.

His painting, marked by ultra-flat forms, sharp contours, and primary colors, achieves immediate and universal impact. Beneath its apparent simplicity lies a profound interpretation of the present, populated by recurring icons — hearts, crowns, monsters, bombs, and televisions — that serve as collective symbols of humanity. Devoid of ethnic or gender references, these images embody a popular and inclusive aesthetic, representing the shared essence of human experience.

GGT’s work explores themes such as humanity’s relationship with the planet, social inequality, migration, and technological addiction. Yet he avoids slogans or judgments, preferring to invite open interpretation and critical thought rather than dictate meaning.

Influenced by artists such as Keith Haring and Professor Bad Trip, GGT has forged an independent, outsider path, distancing himself from commercial Street Art circuits. Working primarily in the studio, he emphasizes artistic freedom and the creation of accessible, reproducible works, democratizing the experience of art. A constant experimenter, he often employs found materials—old frames, road signs, pinball machine screens—reimagining each object as a new visual foundation. His current series draws inspiration from the Japanese concept of “MA” (間), the harmonious coexistence of emptiness and form.

In this pursuit of balance between space and figure, GGT continues to refine his radical visual synthesis, affirming his voice as one of the most original within the contemporary art scene.
